A belated posting: My trip to Chengdu

Hello world!
I got back from Chengdu last Monday and I STILL haven’t been posted about it because I’ve been busy with all of the new site improvements. Well, at least I can post up while ‘autosave’ is enabled.
In any case, for those of you who don’t know, Chengdu is a big Chinese city right in the middle of China.
It’s in the province of Sichuan and is kind of like the “soul” of the country as opposed to the coastal cities like Beijing, Shanghai, or ahem Xiamen. Annie was in Chengdu for the whole week researching possibilities for opening a new clothing store there so I decided that it’d be a good opportunity to head over there for the weekend and explore a new HUGE city (population is more than Los Angeles).
I arrived on Friday afternoon and Annie met me at the airport. What commenced over the weekend could best be described as a cycle of the following:
- Wake up
- Walk, snack, hike, snack, stroll, snack, amble, snack climb…
- Eat eat eat
- FOOT MASSAGE!
- Sleep
WALK
SNACK
EAT
FOOT MASSAGE
It’s exactly the kind of vacation that I wanted. Here was the itinerary:
- Friday: Stroll around and be touristy in Chengdu and find the best Sichuan hot pot place followed by foot massage.
- Saturday: Head to Mt. Qingcheng (青城山) and do more hiking, snacking, eating, and then foot massage on the front part of the mountain.
- Sunday: Head to the front part of Mt. Qingcheng for MORE hiking and snacking, head back to Chengdu for the best Sichuan dinner we could find followed by foot massage.
- Monday: Return to Hong Kong.
I really like getting out of Hong Kong occaisionally and let off steam by exploring a new place, especially a place with so much good food! I’ll be going back to the U.S. (San Francisco to see friends, Portland for my brother’s wedding) at the end of the month and then another trip to Xiamen in July and then I think I’d like to head on over to Tsingtao at the end of July – maybe in time for the Beer Festival. Awesome…
