More embarassing moments...

  • Alive Not Dead archive

Last night at the Diesel/[alive not dead] party, I was having a really happy time from all of the great music, the plentiful beer, the loads of friends and newly met friends… It was an all-around great time.

I was perhaps too exuberant – pumped up from the combination of good music and good friends and I saw a girl sitting in the corner not really talking to anyone so I struck up a conversation with her. I’m horribly bad with faces, but I thought I recognized her as someone else and we proceed to talk:

- Speaking in Mandarin – because we had on two previous occaisions spoken in Mandarin
- “We’ve met two or three times now with our friend XXX.”
- “Oh you don’t remember – it’s alright, I’m horribly bad with faces, too.”
- “It’s alright if you don’t remember me. Actually, last time, we both had perhaps drunk a little too much.”
It was a couple minutes into the conversation before I realized something was horribly, HORRIBLY wrong – perhaps this WASN’T the girl who I had met on two previous occaisions… and I’m speaking to this stranger for some reason in my bad Mandarin… And I just accused her of being drunk the last time we met… ARGGHHHHH! This definitely ranks up there with Dax’s most embarassing story

To be honest, the last time I met the person who WASN’T at the party, she was dressed-down and wearing a hat and ridiculuously large Waldo glasses – looking very incognito.

To the very confused woman at the party: I’m horribly sorry for having the recall memory of a dung beetle… After thinking about it now, it’s really quite idiotic that I mistook you for someone else.

This actually reminds me very much of one of my favorite bits from funny-band, the Flight of the Conchords. Watch below and you’ll get the general tenor of how our conversation went last night…

On the topic of my increasing absentmindedness – I went to the bookstore today and bought four new books including a new short stories collection by Chuck Palaniuk (Fight Club) and a couple of Haruki Murakami novels, both amongst my favorite authors. Unfortunately, I had another moment of brain freeze and accidentally left the bag of books in the car on the way back home… :-(
