Seriously excited about Halloween...

This is me from 2005 as the character “Disco Stu” from“The Simpsons”. I spent a whole month finding the suit, shirt, sewing pink flames on the suit, and even emblazoned “Disco Stu” in sequins on the back. The crowning touch? I found a set of 6“ platform shoes to go with my disco outfit with plastic goldfish floating in actual water in the heels. It wasn’t the most practical costume, but it was sure eye-catching.

While rottendoubt and I were hard at work doing our previous companies, Rotten Tomatoes and Design Reactor, we always found time to have fun every year by doing an annual Halloween Party. The tradition started in 1997 during the second year of Design Reactor and continued in 1998, 1999, 2003 (under Rotten Tomatoes), 2004, and 2005. You can ask any of our San Francisco friends here on alivenotdead.com – we took our Halloween party SERIOUSLY and I would like to think that it was the social event of the year amongst our circle of friends and the best Halloween party in San Francisco. This year will be the NINTH annual Rotten Tomatoes party but we won’t be a part of it.

Instead, we’ll be transporting this annual event to Hong Kong for hopefully the first of many DEAD NOT ALIVE annual Halloween parties by alivenotdead.com. In our previous Rotten Tomatoes parties, guests would begin planning their costumes months in advance and some of the costume ideas were really astounding. My hope is that with all of the ARTISTIC creativity on alivenotdead.com, we’ll see some really great costumes this year as well. But this is just the start… my real hope is that people get a TASTE of what a real fun Halloween party should be and then can begin planning on having even CRAZIER costumes and MORE fun at future DEAD NOT ALIVE Halloween parties. This is what happened at Design Reactor/Rotten Tomatoes where our first Halloween party started with maybe 150 people at the small Haas Clubhouse in Berkeley (no alcohol at the time because a majority of our employees including myself were underage!). By the time I left, there were 1500+ attendees and a  guestlist (which rolled over year-to-year) of over 4000 people making it one of the largest Halloween parties in San Francisco – and EVERYONE in costume.

So I really hope I get to see everyone in costume and having fun this October 31st. It’s such a rare opportunity to have a FREE Halloween Party along that actually FALLS on October 31st.
